Poona Institute of Management Sciences and Entrepreneurship organised an industrial visit to Labour Commissioner Office on 01st February, 2023.
Established in the year 1916, Labour Commissioner Office is situated at Shivaji Nagar, Pune. The main head office is located at Mumbai. Few districts such as Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Kolhapur come under the purview of Pune district itself. The organization of the Chief Labour Commissioner also known as Industrial Relations Machinery is an apex organization in the country responsible for maintaining harmonious industrial relations.
The visit started with a brief introduction of the Labour Commissioner Office given by Mr. Datta Pawar, Assistant Deputy Commissioner. He gave an overview about various acts, viz., Child Labour Act, 1986, Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, etc. He highlighted the various measures undertaken by the them to eradicate child labour from the society. He explained in detail as to how Labour Commissioner Office plays a vital role in resolving the conflicts between labour unions and the management of organization owners or factory owners. The visit proved to be quite successful as the students were able to learn something new beyond the four walls of the classroom due to the valuable insights provided by the staff at Labour Commissioner Office.
