The Poona Institute of Management Sciences and Entrepreneurship hosted an engaging Debate Competition on 19th November 2024, aimed at fostering critical thinking, articulation, and public speaking skills among students. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, who came prepared with compelling arguments and a passion for discourse. The central theme of the debate was “Artificial Intelligence: A Boon or a Threat to Human Employment”, sparking a dynamic exchange of views.
The competition was conducted in a structured format with participants divided into two teams — for and against the motion. The panel of esteemed judges, comprising faculty members and external experts, evaluated the participants based on their content, clarity, rebuttal, and confidence. Each speaker presented well-researched points, followed by a vigorous round of counterarguments that highlighted their analytical and persuasive abilities.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where the winning team and best speaker were awarded certificates and trophies. Director Dr. Porinita Banerjee, in her closing remarks, praised the students’ efforts and encouraged them to continue participating in such intellectually stimulating activities. The Debate Competition proved to be a resounding success, reflecting the institute’s commitment to holistic education and the development of future leaders.
