Program Highlights

The Poona Institute of Management Sciences and Entrepreneurship successfully organized a 5-day Professional Development Program titled "Unlocking the Power of Excel: Tool for Administrative Success" from 13th December, 2024 to 18th December, 2024 excluding Sunday. The program was coordinated by Dr. Sheena Abraham and Ms. Lubna Shaikh, conducted in collaboration with MKCL's ERA Computer Center. The program aimed at enhancing administrative proficiency of non teaching staff through effective use of Microsoft Excel.
Trainer Profile:
Ms. Bhagyashree Jadhav, Center Head of MKCL's ERA Computer Center, served as the resource person for the program. With 15 years of extensive experience in computer course training, she brought valuable expertise and hands-on knowledge to the participants.
Day 1: Basics of Excel
On the first day 13th December, 2024, participants were introduced to the fundamental concepts of Microsoft Excel, including understanding the interface, navigating workbooks, and learning basic data entry techniques. The trainer emphasized the importance of Excel as a powerful administrative tool and provided hands-on activities to help participants build confidence with the basics.
Day 2: Workbase Outputs and Data Management
The second day 14th December 2024, was focussed on generating workbase outputs. Participants learned how to organize and manipulate data effectively using Excel tools. The trainer demonstrated techniques such as sorting, filtering, and formatting data, which are critical for administrative tasks. Real-world scenarios were shared to help participants understand how Excel can streamline day-to-day operations.
Day 3: Creating Charts for Effective Visualization
On 16th December 2024, Ms. Jadhav conducted an insightful session on the creation and use of charts to visualize data. Ms. Jadhav explained the process of generating bar charts, line graphs, and pie charts to represent data clearly and meaningfully. Participants were guided on selecting appropriate chart types for different datasets and learned how to customize charts to make presentations visually appealing and insightful.
Day 4: Frequently Used Formulas – Mathematical Functions
On 17th December 2024, the session was dedicated to exploring frequently used mathematical formulas in Excel. Ms. Bhagyashree Jadhav introduced participants to essential formulas such as SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, COUNT, COUNTA, ROUND, and ABS. These formulas were explained through practical examples, enabling participants to perform quick and accurate calculations for administrative tasks. The trainer highlighted the significance of these tools for automating numerical operations and improving efficiency in daily workflows. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises to apply these formulas in real-world scenarios, building confidence in their use.
Day 5: Text Functions and Overview of V & H Lookup
On 18th December 2024, the final day of the program, Ms. Bhagyashree Jadhav covered text functions and an overview of VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP. Participants learned to manage and manipulate text data using functions such as CONCATENATE, LEFT, RIGHT, MID, LEN, UPPER, LOWER, PROPER, and TRIM. The session also included the TEXTJOIN function, which simplifies combining text with delimiters.
In the latter half, Ms. Jadhav introduced the powerful VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP functions for data retrieval. She explained the concepts step-by-step, showing how to search for specific information in large datasets efficiently. Through guided demonstrations and real-world examples, participants grasped the practical applications of these lookup functions, empowering them to handle complex data management tasks effectively.

The 5-day workshop proved to be highly interactive and practical, empowering participants with skills to utilize Excel effectively in their administrative roles. The insights shared by Ms. Bhagyashree Jadhav were well-received, and participants appreciated the hands-on approach to mastering Excel tools. The program successfully achieved its objective of enhancing administrative efficiency and skill development, marking yet another milestone for the institute in promoting professional growth.
